NRCS Woodpecker Project
The NRCS Woodpecker Project was a unique project that we undertook in September of 2024. Our client was seeking a government grant for this particular timber stand from the NRCS. The contract parameters for the government grant included having or creating a certain number of snag trees per acre to conserve woodpecker habitat. To ensure that our client was approved for this grant, we surveyed the property marking all existing snag trees and creating them where appropriate to confirm that the landowner was allowed the grant from the NRCS.
Alabama Timber Inventory Cruise
This Timber Inventory Cruise Project took place in Alabama and was completed in October of 2024. We were contacted to undertake this cruise project on multiple mid-rotation pine plantation stands to collect data regarding the stand volume and quality. The data we collected provided the landowner with current information on their timber stands, as well as an idea of future projections of timber tonnage and value.
Georgia Timber Inventory Cruise
We completed the Georgia Timber Inventory Cruise Project in November of 2024. This project took place on a large private land-base in south Georgia. We cruised multiple pine plantation stands collecting data to determine each stands’ timber quality and volume.
Seedling Survival 2024
During the months of November and December of 2024 we took many seedling survival plots for various different landowners. These plots are a survey of pine seedlings planted the year prior. While taking these plots we are evaluating the survival of the planted seedlings, their health, and how much competition they have from naturally regenerated pine seedlings.
Forest Management Plan
We completed this Forest Management Plan in December of 2024 providing the landowner with recommendations to help them achieve their property goals. An initial survey was conducted on this property with the objectives of the landowner in mind. We delineated the timber stands, cruised the timber, and observed the layout and biological composition of the property. At the end of the process, we provided the landowner with a written plan stating our findings and thoughtful recommendations to help the landowner reach their property goals.
Prescribed Fire
Here is a prescribed fire we performed on a mature longleaf pine stand in December of 2024. We got a great burn on this stand helping to maintain a clean understory and promote the growth of new grasses and forbs. This will be a wonderful wildlife attractant come springtime when new, tender growth is sprouting in the understory.
Site-Prep Burn
This site-prep burn was one of many that we completed in 2024. This particular burn was located in Baldwin County, AL. We burned this stand in late December and were able to get good burn coverage. This created a clean planting site and eliminated competing growth from the pine seedlings to be planted.
